The Tandem Vincemus Initiative
The counseling profession is founded in science, as such it is crucial that clinicians are allowed to ask questions. After all, our profession has considered certain therapies and ideas as cutting edge… only to later, very quietly distance itself from those same methods (i.e.- lobotomies, cold water tanks, etc.)
Yet at the current time clinicians are prohibited from asking certain questions. Furthermore, if a clinician dares to ask a question or push back against the current tide, they face personal and professional isolation and reprisals. This cannot stand. The difference between science and an ideology is the ability to question.
Science has us test our hypotheses time and time again, working to disprove our assumptions, while also accepting evidence as it manifests. If someone proposes a radical scientific idea, the appropriate response is to ask questions… to challenge it… to seek to find the truth.
Ideology allows for no such discussion. Instead ideology demands you either align yourself with it unquestioningly, or face a (metaphorical) burning at the stake for daring to ask questions.
No more. We are healers, men and women of science, who will remain committed to the scientific method and reject attempts at developing a professional ideology.
The Tandem Vincemus Initiative is a grassroots effort to engage with and connect mental health professionals who feel at odds with the path the profession is taking.
The goals of TVI are simple:
Connect clinicians to each other in order to know you are not alone.
Question the Golden Calf: Questions and dialogue lead to better treatment outcomes.
Offer high quality continuing education free from political ideology.
Endeavor to bring balance to the profession.
